The Film: Second Chance
Presented by American Rivers
The Teton River flows quietly through eastern Idaho, a wild trout stream, a working agricultural river, and the lifeblood of the Teton Valley community.
But in 1976, everything changed.
The catastrophic collapse of the Teton Dam unleashed nearly 80 billion gallons of water, devastating downstream communities and forever altering the river’s story. The disaster killed 11 people, flooded hundreds of thousands of acres, and caused billions in damage.
Nearly 50 years later, the river, and the people who depend on it continue to recover, rebuild, and reimagine what the future of the watershed can be.
Second Chance is a short documentary exploring the past, present, and future of the Teton River, and how communities, conservationists, anglers, and ranchers are working together to protect it.
Through our Collab for Conservation campaign, we’re raising funds to support the people doing the real work on the ground.
Film Screenings & Community Events
The release of Second Chance will include a series of community screenings and panel discussions across the region.
These events bring together anglers, conservation leaders, farmers, and community members to talk about the future of the Teton River.
