Fish Camp Course · Striped Bass
Martha's Vineyard guide Abbie Schuster shows you how to find them and get them to eat on the flats, in the rips, off the rocks, and around jetties. From shore or from a boat.

Abbie Schuster, Kismet OutfittersA few things Abbie teaches
Straight from the lessons. There's a lot more where these came from.
Stripers like 60 to 70 degrees. On the Vineyard, the season basically starts the day the water hits 55.
Look for the slightly deeper divot on a flat. Even an inch matters. That's where fish come in on the tide.
Make one long strip to clear slack. When the fish turns on it, speed up like a scared baitfish would.
A fish tipping on its side is nosing the bottom for crabs or shrimp. Switch flies and give it a longer pause.
Inside the course

Migration, water temps, and why a moving tide matters.

Sight fishing gin-clear water. Crabs vs. baitfish, leaders, and the strip set.

Fishing fast current where stripers ambush bait.

Working rocky shorelines and the eddies fish hide in.

Fishing structure from shore.

Rods, lines, leaders, and flies.
Plus short lessons on weather, myths and tips, and conservation.
Your instructor
Abbie started fishing Martha's Vineyard on her dad's shoulders. She went to guide school at the University of Montana and guided in Alaska and Washington, then came home because she missed the stripers.
She started Kismet Outfitters in 2016 as a one-woman guide service. Today it's a fly shop with a full guide team, and a place where beginners and lifers get treated the same.
